OAuth refresh tokens grant persistent SaaS application access without requiring passwords or MFA, operating silently outside traditional identity controls. These tokens persist indefinitely in third-party applications, are invisible to most security tooling, and remain functional even after a user's account is disabled or their password is changed.
Tip to stay secure: Continuously inventory OAuth tokens across all SaaS applications, enforce least-privilege scopes, and cap refresh token lifetimes at 90-180 days.
